OLD TUSCARORA JAIL, HENDERSON, NEVADA
Clark County Museum, 1830 South Boulder Highway, Henderson Nevada (exit Highway 95 at Wagonwheel); open daily, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day
According to the brochure, this little jail was built in 1877 to serve the gold and silver mining community of Tuscarora (located nearly 500 miles north of Henderson), but “was not used much because serious criminals went to the big prison in Elko, 60 miles away.” (It’s more likely they were taken to the Elko County Jail, as Nevada’s prison in those days was even farther away in Carson.)
